Curatorial Statement
Fear is your fuel, not your enemy. I believe that with a belly full of fear and a heart full of passion you can conquer anything. This confidence within oneself is what my body of work highlights. My work includes several pieces that are based on the area of inquiry; confidence. I initially started with researching about performance art, due to the fact that I wanted my art to be interactive. The reason behind why I chose to make interactive art is because I really want the audience to experience the journey of the growth of confidence, and to really experience what I went through as an adolescent. My exhibition is a walk through experience. As a young adult living in this generation, it takes a lot of time for one to gain confidence. This walk through experience is supposed to aid and guide the audience towards gaining more confidence.
Curatorial Statement
The theme I have explored throughout the two years of studying art is the theme of FEAR. Why I chose it you may ask? I chose it because fear can explored in a beautiful way and a bad way as well. As a student/artist I wanted to show the audience how I view fear in a different way. I want the MY audience to view my pieces in a unique way. I want them to feel mixed emotions while viewing my piece and also I want them after each piece to write a small note on what they think my piece is about. In my opinion I don’t want to supervise them, I want them to feel free in my space, to use their imagination, to think deeply about each of my pieces and then write notes about it. I want my audience to surprise me with their comments but obviously in a good way.
Curatorial Statement
The theme I have explored throughout this art course is the theme of nature. I have tried and experimented with different mediums. I have been experimenting with many different materials from newspaper and ink to acrylic pouring paint. The goal of exploring all the different aspects of this theme is to show the beauty of nature, it is Gods art of creation. Through my choices of color and images I chose to portray, I have created an aesthetic selection of different pieces.
Curatorial Statement
Abstract expressionism is the form of art I will be exhibiting. This form of art allows me to express how I feel freely, in addition to presenting a certain emotion to the viewer. Darkness was an idea I wanted to present to a certain extent in my work. Through my colors and different approaches to presenting this idea, I managed to create a body of work that allows the viewer to interpret the darkness that lies within our souls in different ways. My main goal was to present lurking darkness in its several forms. To be more specific, the colors I used presented darkness that is not necessarily depressing or pessimistic, rather show a version that is pure and exciting.

Curatorial Rationale
My
body of work moves through a range of ideas and concepts, that all relate to
the development of my personal style that explores the intersection of
figurative and abstract art. I have tried to explore this theme in several different
ways; by looking into the use of abstraction by several different artists,
looking into the techniques and tools that could be used to abstract an
artwork, also by exploring my own experiences through the use of abstract
patterns. I transformed the triangle patterns that I’ve been doodling ever
since I was little into a tool/style of artwork used to express and create.
Only after experimenting with the style of other artists for more than one year
was I able to find my own style. The works produced have incorporated both
sculptural and 2D elements, leaving the viewer with a unique visual perspective.
My vision for presenting this body of work is to show the skills I have
developed throughout this course, and how I explored many different ways to illustrate
my area of inquiry.
All
my artworks also have an emotional aspect linked to them. I want the viewer to
be able to look into a wide range of concepts that humans experience on a daily
basis from a different perspective. The concepts that are explored are
universal, in that way anyone can relate to them. In my work “Frustration”, I
tried to show feelings of frustration and anger through the choice of colors
and medium. I made the texture of the oil paint on canvas look rough, to
illustrate the toughness in his expression. Also I was able to communicate
feelings of anger through the choice of colors, which too made my work look
vibrant and dynamic. Although my artistic subject matter tried to demonstrate
personal feelings of anxiety and frustration, and concepts such as mans
existence, human physiology and architecture, the common thread of abstraction becomes
a symbol of commonality in my artworks.
I
had a huge interest in the work of other artists, and took time to experiment
with their techniques. I studied the work of Lucas Wodynski, Sebastian Wandl,
Ayman Zedani, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, and Louise Nevelson. The mediums
I use include oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolor paint and pencils, charcoal,
heavy carvable paste, dip ink and ballpoint pens, clay, and wood. I also used technology
to merge pictures together, draw, and create using a wide range of digital
tools. All these mediums have helped make me understand visual arts on a
better, deeper, perspective.
I
arranged the works in the exhibition in a way that it looks balanced and
settling to the viewer, to make them look comfortable. I did this by spreading
out the works based on color; I included specific colors into each piece to
achieve this effect of uniformity and consistency throughout the display. Also
in the case of composition, I placed the two largest artworks up, I also made
sure that each artwork is not situated at eye level, so that the viewer can
have a better sense of it as a whole consistent series of work. The placement
makes it easier for the viewer to focus on each individual artwork without
distraction. The structure itself is arranged into two columns dominated by
both a figurative and an abstract piece. Moving the eye downward on the wall
there are various figures interacting between figurative and abstract shapes.
The use of 3D abstract sculptural elements expands the concepts explored in the
2D works and brings them off of the wall for the audience to experience in
three dimensions. My arrangement allows the viewer to recognize and compare the
different representations of abstraction through different mediums (sculptures
vs. paintings). This provides room for
discussion on the theme and contemplations of people’s individual experiences.
