It's All About Me
Objectives

- Demonstrate control over painting, cutting and gluing materials and processes
- Sharpen powers of observation
- Investigate the purposes of artworks from different times, places and cultures including their own
Watercolour Self-Portraits (2017-19)
Students create self-portraits using watercolours and
include their names in bubble letters.

Students respond to art from different times, places and
cultures by selecting their favourite portraits from art history and copying
them.
Mondigliani Portraits (2019)
This project was very useful for learning about proportions by examining the distortions Mondigliani used in his portraits.

Printmaking (2018)
Students use a foam block technique to create an edition of
three prints. They identify the materials and tools used in printing an edition
while planning and choosing the imagery and colours to communicate their own
idea about the impact of the weather on the environment.

Students explore paper construction techniques in the process of making their own papier-mâché hot air balloon toys. They decorate their toys to communicate their experiences and practice identifying the formal elements of art when describing their work.

Tell me a Story
Ceramic pinch pot fish (2017)Students make a pinch pot out of clay and transform this into a fish by adding fins and eyes. They create their fish as a model of a character before glazing and firing their work in the school kiln.

Painted cut paper collages (2018)
Students create paper cut out collages using stylized plant shapes. They explore the paper cut outs by Matisse as inspiration for their work. Students investigate colour mixing (primary and secondary colours) in addition to contrast of colour, shape and size.
